Town information- The market town of Maldon - Essex with its estimated population of 15 513 inhabitants, lies nestled in eastern England in the Sovereign State of the United Kingdom. Originally founded by Saxons during the Fifteenth Century, the area quickly grew into an important Saxon port. Maldon was also home to King Edward the Elder during battle of North Essex against Danish settlers who attempted to occupy the area.

Annual events- An array of exciting events are held in the town on an annual basis in the form of a “Taxi Day” for disabled children, giving kids chance to be driven from London to Maldon for a day of fun activities and Maldon Mud Race normally held during the first week of January is a swimming gala at low tide not to mention freeze temperatures on local and well-known Blackwater estuary. Fantastic Victorian Evenings are held during first two weeks of December to celebrate Victorian days.

Museums- The towns’ rich history can be viewed at Maldon and District Agricultural & Domestic Museum with rural items dating as far back as beginning of the Eighteenth Century. If historical arts and crafts tickles your fancy a visit to the Maeldune Heritage Centre is just your thing. An astonishing 42 feet long embroidery, depicting the towns’ history is also on display in the Centre.

Market days- The town boasts with two farmers’ markets, one at the Swan Hotel and the other at Carnival Hall. Swan Hotel market day is first Tuesday of every month and Carnival Hall holds market day on third Sunday of every month.

Cycling- Cycling enthusiasts will love the fantastic country lanes and routes running through the town and small neighbouring villages ranging anything from Fourteen to Forty-Three miles in distance.
